About the event
Perhaps you’ve heard about the significant federal, state, and local funding aimed at improving the watershed health of the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay? Millions of tax-dollars are committed to improving the water quality within York County and the surrounding region.
FNLT and landowners can play a part in these projects!
Join Sean Kenny (Executive Director of FNLT), Jon Kasitz (of RES) and Tod Klunk (FNLT landowner) on site where one of these large water quality improvement projects will be located. We’ll gather at this beautiful farmstead, upstream of Felton Borough, and hear from Jon who is working with the Klunks to implement a large stream and wetland restoration project. Construction will begin in the next 12-18 months, so this is a chance to see what is in need of – and qualifies for – restoration.
The restoration project is the culmination of 3-4 years of coordination between FNLT, the Klunk family and RES, with the catalyst being a new water quality funding source through PENNVEST.
Sean, Tod and Jon will walk through the steps and thought processes that ultimately led to the permanent preservation of the entire property with FNLT and eventual restoration of the stream corridor that bisects the farm.
The stream restoration project area is protected by additional site protections over and above typical conservation easements. Jon will share the normal expectations and limitations that come with these water quality projects, how projects are funded, why the Klunk farm qualified, and how the project fits within the workings of an active farm.
If there's a need to reschedule due to weather, attendees will be informed.
**Questions & requested topics you would like to learn about are encouraged and can be sent in advance of the events to Anna at alevitsky@farmtrust.org. Sturdy shoes and appropriate outdoor attire are recommended.
